    Oriental rugs

The Oriental rug is probably the best known and most popular kind of classic rugs. The range is enormous and covers all types of rugs originating from geographic regions commonly referred to as the Orient. These regions nowadays include areas of North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia. An Oriental rug can be produced in many different ways, using various materials: whether woven or knotted from wool, silk, cotton or hemp. These particular details often reveal more about their quality and origin, just like the design, which also varies depending on its descent. Thus, a North African Berber rug is similar to a modern shaggy rug in regard to its weave. A Persian rug or an Iranian nomadic rug, on the other hand, impresses with its rich colours, oriental-style patterns and exotic flair. Nonetheless, all models share certain features: they are carefully made by hand using natural and valuable materials. Unfortunately, that makes Oriental rugs unaffordable for many. But luckily, we offer suitable alternatives: you can choose among reasonable Oriental rugs, but also models we produce ourselves on the basis of classic oriental designs. These are generally machine woven, using synthetic fibres and correspondingly are more inexpensive than their high-priced counterparts. Due to a robust processing and manufacturing using synthetic fibres, our Oriental carpets are very easy-care and can be used in most places without hesitation. This makes them versatile furnishings that even decorate the hallway of your home in the shape of rug runners. As we additionally offer a great selection in regard to different shapes and sizes, the rugs are suitable for many living spaces, among others also for the bedroom as a bedside carpet that usually have a small-format.

    Traditional rugs

Traditional rugs have been in high demand for a long time and now even provide creative inspiration for modern rugs and current interior trends with their rich designs and patterns. While traditional rugs are still made by hand, following long-established manufacturing techniques, their modern pendants are mostly tufted or woven by machine and thus are similar to other textile products whose production has been efficiently automated in the course of industrialisation. In regard to its design, a traditional rug is characterized by filigree ornamental patterns, florals and decorative borders; these are timeless and complement every interior style. However, these motifs are not the only distinguishing feature of traditional rugs as rich, intense colours are also very typical for them. Originally, natural dyes were extracted from plant roots, for example, and were used to add a special, colourful look to this particular kind of textile home furnishing. Nowadays, synthetic dyes are used more frequently as these are very intense and at the same time highly affordable. Thus, traditional rugs now come in vivid pink and muted pastel colours, creating a trendy antique look in your home.

Even if professional cleaning companies advise against it, it is certainly possible to get your oriental rug clean again yourself in the case of minor stains and soiling. What should I look for when buying oriental rugs?

Whether the oriental carpet is hand-knotted can be recognised by various features: First, a machine-knotted carpet usually has fringes on the side. Pull on a single fringe and observe the knots on the back of the oriental rug that are in line with this fringe and connected into the rug. If these move when you pull, the fringes are not sewn on and the warp thread is forming the fringes through the carpet. Machine-knotted carpets are usually flawless and flawlessly uniform. A hand-knotted oriental carpet will always have minimal variations due to the large number of knots per square metre. So look around the back of the classic rug for recurring patterns and watch for small slight variations in the colour sequence or look for knots that show different sizes. Speaking of size, a hand-knotted rug often has minimal size differences in length or width. So take a tape measure and measure the sides of the carpet. A hand-knotted carpet has significant differences in the millimetre range. When buying an oriental carpet, also pay attention to the origin of the carpet, which must always be stated. Genuine oriental carpets come in particular from Iran, Afghanistan, Russia and Turkey.
