HOW TO STYLE: RUGS IN BERBER LOOK

3 ways to bring the traditional style into your home

You've probably met him on Instagram: the one and only Berber rug. A cream-coloured base, imperfect, randomly placed diamond patterns in brown or black and a warm woolly pile. Those are the classic characteristics of the fashionable trend rug that interior bloggers just love! We couldn’t help but wonder: why is everyone going crazy for rugs in the Berber look? It's an easy question to answer. With their design they really fit into every interior, as they stand out excellently in Scandinavian interiors as well as in playful boho designs. Check out this blog article to find out how to combine Berber rugs!

WHAT EXACTLY IS A BERBER RUG?

Genuine Berber rugs have a long history. They are also called Beni Ourain rugs and are made by tribes carrying the same name and living in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, Tunisia or Algeria. Do you know what makes traditional Berber rugs so special? Made exclusively by women, they are knotted by hand according to centuries of tradition. Berber rugs are made from the finest wool from sheep that live exclusively in the northern Atlas Mountains.

RUGS IN BERBER STYLE - FROM TRADITION TO TREND

Berber rugs are no novelty, but rather experiencing a real renaissance in those times. Already back in the 1950s and 1960s they enjoyed great popularity in the Midcentury style of furnishing. This interior was characterised by practical, filigree furniture with slender legs and feet made of metal. Perfect for showcasing the design of a Beni Ourain rug.

The fact that the clear and yet soft design of the Beni Ourain rug can be easily combined is something that has not gone unnoticed by today's designers as well. They design rugs in the typical Berber look, which are accessible even for a smaller purse.

Our favorite gem is now available in a wide variety of designs: with the classic diamond pattern, in various colours, made of wool or synthetic fibres. Even outdoor rugs are now decorated with the typical diamond design.

Rugs in the Berber look and the Boho-Chic style - these two are a real dream team. The deliberately imperfect patterns of the Beni Ourain rugs match the natural hippie style perfectly. The rug can easily become the main protagonist of your interior, allowing you to choose all other home accessories to accompany it.

Bohemians combine accessories made of natural fabrics with Berber rugs. Such as lamps, mirror and picture frames, baskets or flower pots - typically made of rattan, bast or jute. As a cuddly addition you might want to add cushions, blankets & co, which are decoratively decorated with fringes & tassels. An absolute highlight: wall hangings in a playful look!

RUGS IN BERBER STYLE: SCANDI CHIC

Clear lines, natural colours, cuddly materials - we are talking about simply designed Berber rugs. Wait a minute, don't all these characteristics apply to the Scandinavian style of furnishing as well? Right - that's why Berber rugs and Scandi iChic make a fabulous team.

This style is a great alternative for those who like it less playful and a bit more straightforward. Because Beni Ourain style rugs can be matched just as easily with simple accessories and pieces of furniture. The basis for the cool Scandi look is the trend rug in cream; black highlights included. In addition, cuddly blankets and cushions in plain design are used to complement the look. Make sure to choose accessories in light shades that match the colour family of the rug. For example cream, white & beige. Filigree vases and candlesticks complete the interior. Every now and then a splash of colour in pastel may be desired. In general, however, strong colours are not suitable for the typical Scandi look.

The nursery is where children play and learn and, above all, where your kids should feel at home. Kids rugs are equally stylish and a practical underlay as well. But it does not always have to be a typical child rug. After all, sometimes the little ones want to live as hip as the grown-ups. A Beni Ourain rug can become a visual highlight in the children's room as well. The prerequisites for achieving this are soft materials and a cuddly pile that protects small children's hands and feet from the hard-floor. A high-pile rug in the Berber look is therefore particularly recommended for use in your child's room.
