We are a household with 3 young boys and 3 dogs, so I was essentially after something very cleanable, which this is. You can tell its synthetic, but not in a terrible way, its just a bit shiny and glittery somehow. The pattern however is lovely, quite "Laura Ashley" and there are faded lines in it to add to its "vintage" look. Its just the shine which is a little offputting, it would be totally 100% better if it was a matt look, like a real vintage hand-knotted rug, but then you'd be paying a fortune for it! I can't imagine it will ever be a family heirloom, but for now it does the job well.
